Century Communities Insiders Sold US$16m Of Shares Suggesting Hesitancy
Many Century Communities, Inc. (NYSE:CCS) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Century Communities Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
The Chairman & Co-CEO, Dale Francescon, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$6.4m worth of shares at a price of US$64.05 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$74.94. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 5.6% of Dale Francescon's stake.
