ESAB (NYSE:ESAB) Ticks All The Boxes When It Comes To Earnings Growth
Investors are often guided by the idea of discovering 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without any revenue, let alone profit. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.
If this kind of company isn't your style, you like companies that generate revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in ESAB (NYSE:ESAB). Even if this company is fairly valued by the market, investors would agree that generating consistent profits will continue to provide ESAB with the means to add long-term value to shareholders.
How Fast Is ESAB Growing?
If you believe that markets are even vaguely efficient, then over the long term you'd expect a company's share price to follow its earnings per share (EPS) outcomes. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. ESAB managed to grow EPS by 9.0% per year, over three years. That growth rate is fairly good, assuming the company can keep it up.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. ESAB reported flat revenue and EBIT margins over the last year. That's not bad, but it doesn't point to ongoing future growth, either.

Are ESAB Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Insider interest in a company always sparks a bit of intrigue and many investors are on the lookout for companies where insiders are putting their money where their mouth is. Because often, the purchase of stock is a sign that the buyer views it as undervalued. Of course, we can never be sure what insiders are thinking, we can only judge their actions.
We haven't seen any insiders selling ESAB shares, in the last year. Add in the fact that Melissa Cummings, the Independent Director of the company, paid US$5.4k for shares at around US$109 each. It seems that at least one insider is prepared to show the market there is potential within ESAB.
On top of the insider buying, it's good to see that ESAB insiders have a valuable investment in the business. Notably, they have an enviable stake in the company, worth US$435m. Holders should find this level of insider commitment quite encouraging, since it would ensure that the leaders of the company would also experience their success, or failure, with the stock.
Should You Add ESAB To Your Watchlist?
One positive for ESAB is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. Better yet, insiders are significant shareholders, and have been buying more shares. That should do plenty in prompting budding investors to undertake a bit more research - or even adding the company to their watchlists. Of course, identifying quality businesses is only half the battle; investors need to know whether the stock is undervalued.
