Stock Analysis
We wouldn't blame UFP Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:UFPI) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Patrick Benton, the President of UFP Construction LLC recently netted about US$1.4m selling shares at an average price of US$107. That sale reduced their total holding by 14% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At UFP Industries
The Executive Chairman, Matthew Missad, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$3.4m worth of shares at a price of US$114 each. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$104. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. UFP Industries insiders own about US$106m worth of shares (which is 1.7% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
