We Think Strattec Security's (NASDAQ:STRT) Robust Earnings Are Conservative
Even though Strattec Security Corporation (NASDAQ:STRT ) posted strong earnings, investors appeared to be underwhelmed. Our analysis says that investors should be optimistic, as the strong profit is built on solid foundations.
A Closer Look At Strattec Security's Earnings
Many investors haven't heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company's profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. In plain english, this ratio subtracts FCF from net profit, and divides that number by the company's average operating assets over that period. The ratio shows us how much a company's profit exceeds its FCF.
As a result, a negative accrual ratio is a positive for the company, and a positive accrual ratio is a negative. While having an accrual ratio above zero is of little concern, we do think it's worth noting when a company has a relatively high accrual ratio. Notably, there is some academic evidence that suggests that a high accrual ratio is a bad sign for near-term profits, generally speaking.
Strattec Security has an accrual ratio of -0.24 for the year to June 2025. That indicates that its free cash flow quite significantly exceeded its statutory profit. In fact, it had free cash flow of US$65m in the last year, which was a lot more than its statutory profit of US$18.7m. Strattec Security's free cash flow improved over the last year, which is generally good to see.

Our Take On Strattec Security's Profit Performance
Happily for shareholders, Strattec Security produced plenty of free cash flow to back up its statutory profit numbers. Because of this, we think Strattec Security's underlying earnings potential is as good as, or possibly even better, than the statutory profit makes it seem! And the EPS is up 14% over the last twelve months. Of course, we've only just scratched the surface when it comes to analysing its earnings; one could also consider margins, forecast growth, and return on investment, among other factors.
