Mobileye Global Inc.'s (NASDAQ:MBLY) 36% Cheaper Price Remains In Tune With Revenues
Mobileye Global Inc. (NASDAQ:MBLY) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 36% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. The drop over the last 30 days has capped off a tough year for shareholders, with the share price down 19% in that time.
In spite of the heavy fall in price, given around half the companies in the United States' Auto Components industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 0.8x, you may still consider Mobileye Global as a stock to avoid entirely with its 11.1x P/S ratio. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the highly elevated P/S.

What Does Mobileye Global's P/S Mean For Shareholders?
Mobileye Global certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing revenue more than most other companies. It seems that many are expecting the strong revenue performance to persist, which has raised the P/S. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.
Keen to find out how analysts think Mobileye Global's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.Do Revenue Forecasts Match The High P/S Ratio?
There's an inherent assumption that a company should far outperform the industry for P/S ratios like Mobileye Global's to be considered reasonable.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 21%. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 108% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.
Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 24% each year as estimated by the analysts watching the company. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 16% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.
With this information, we can see why Mobileye Global is trading at such a high P/S compared to the industry. It seems most investors are expecting this strong future growth and are willing to pay more for the stock.
What Does Mobileye Global's P/S Mean For Investors?
Even after such a strong price drop, Mobileye Global's P/S still exceeds the industry median significantly. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
As we suspected, our examination of Mobileye Global's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook is contributing to its high P/S. At this stage investors feel the potential for a deterioration in revenues is quite remote, justifying the elevated P/S ratio. It's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
