How Much Are Oxley Holdings Limited (SGX:5UX) Insiders Spending On Buying Shares?
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Oxley Holdings Limited (SGX:5UX).
Do Insider Transactions Matter?
It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Oxley Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Executive Chairman & CEO Chiat Kwong Ching bought S$616k worth of shares at a price of S$0.28 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being S$0.21). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
Oxley Holdings insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. Their average price was about S$0.24. These transactions suggest that insiders have considered the current price attractive. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Oxley Holdings insiders own about S$749m worth of shares (which is 83% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
