Thunderful Group (STO:THUNDR) Has More To Do To Multiply In Value Going Forward
There are a few key trends to look for if we want to identify the next multi-bagger. In a perfect world, we'd like to see a company investing more capital into its business and ideally the returns earned from that capital are also increasing. Put simply, these types of businesses are compounding machines, meaning they are continually reinvesting their earnings at ever-higher rates of return. However, after briefly looking over the numbers, we don't think Thunderful Group (STO:THUNDR) has the makings of a multi-bagger going forward, but let's have a look at why that may be.
Understanding Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. The formula for this calculation on Thunderful Group is:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.084 = kr215m ÷ (kr3.5b - kr948m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to March 2023).
Therefore, Thunderful Group has an ROCE of 8.4%. In absolute terms, that's a low return and it also under-performs the Electronic industry average of 16%.

In the above chart we have measured Thunderful Group's prior ROCE against its prior performance, but the future is arguably more important. If you're interested, you can view the analysts predictions in our free report on analyst forecasts for the company.
So How Is Thunderful Group's ROCE Trending?
The returns on capital haven't changed much for Thunderful Group in recent years. The company has consistently earned 8.4% for the last three years, and the capital employed within the business has risen 305% in that time. This poor ROCE doesn't inspire confidence right now, and with the increase in capital employed, it's evident that the business isn't deploying the funds into high return investments.
On a side note, Thunderful Group has done well to reduce current liabilities to 27% of total assets over the last three years. This can eliminate some of the risks inherent in the operations because the business has less outstanding obligations to their suppliers and or short-term creditors than they did previously.
The Bottom Line
In summary, Thunderful Group has simply been reinvesting capital and generating the same low rate of return as before. And investors appear hesitant that the trends will pick up because the stock has fallen 18% in the last year. In any case, the stock doesn't have these traits of a multi-bagger discussed above, so if that's what you're looking for, we think you'd have more luck elsewhere.
