Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Getinge (STO:GETI B), which has not only revenues, but also profits. Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

Getinge's Improving Profits
Over the last three years, Getinge has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Like a firecracker arcing through the night sky, Getinge's EPS shot from kr5.46 to kr13.26, over the last year. You don't see 143% year-on-year growth like that, very often.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. The good news is that Getinge is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 8.1 percentage points to 19%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

Are Getinge Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Like the kids in the streets standing up for their beliefs, insider share purchases give me reason to believe in a brighter future. This view is based on the possibility that stock purchases signal bullishness on behalf of the buyer. Of course, we can never be sure what insiders are thinking, we can only judge their actions.
Any way you look at it Getinge shareholders can gain quiet confidence from the fact that insiders shelled out kr5.6m to buy stock, over the last year. And when you consider that there was no insider selling, you can understand why shareholders might believe that lady luck will grace this business. We also note that it was the CEO, President & Director, Mattias Perjos, who made the biggest single acquisition, paying kr4.8m for shares at about kr187 each.
On top of the insider buying, it's good to see that Getinge insiders have a valuable investment in the business. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth kr16b. Coming in at 20% of the business, that holding gives insiders a lot of influence, and plenty of reason to generate value for shareholders. Very encouraging.
Does Getinge Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
Getinge's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. Just as heartening; insiders both own and are buying more stock. Because of the potential that it has reached an inflection point, I'd suggest Getinge belongs on the top of your watchlist. You should always think about risks though.
