Here's Why I Think VNV Global (STO:VNV) Is An Interesting Stock

Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.

So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like VNV Global (STO:VNV). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

VNV Global's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.

As one of my mentors once told me, share price follows earnings per share (EPS). Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Impressively, VNV Global has grown EPS by 24% per year, compound, in the last three years. As a general rule, we'd say that if a company can keep up that sort of growth, shareholders will be smiling.

Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. I note that VNV Global's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. The good news is that VNV Global is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 4.8 percentage points to 97%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

While profitability drives the upside, prudent investors always check the balance sheet, too.

Are VNV Global Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own VNV Global shares worth a considerable sum. To be specific, they have US$237m worth of shares. That shows significant buy-in, and may indicate conviction in the business strategy. Despite being just 2.0% of the company, the value of that investment is enough to show insiders have plenty riding on the venture.

Should You Add VNV Global To Your Watchlist?

For growth investors like me, VNV Global's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. I think that EPS growth is something to boast of, and it doesn't surprise me that insiders are holding on to a considerable chunk of shares. So this is very likely the kind of business that I like to spend time researching, with a view to discerning its true value. We should say that we've discovered 3 warning signs for VNV Global (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
