Further Upside For OXE Marine AB (publ) (STO:OXE) Shares Could Introduce Price Risks After 26% Bounce

OXE Marine AB (publ) (STO:OXE) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 26% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 47% over that time.

Even after such a large jump in price, OXE Marine may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x, since almost half of all companies in the Machinery industry in Sweden have P/S ratios greater than 1.9x and even P/S higher than 6x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does OXE Marine's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Recent times have been advantageous for OXE Marine as its revenues have been rising faster than most other companies. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to degrade substantially, which has repressed the share price, and thus the P/S ratio. If the company manages to stay the course, then investors should be rewarded with a share price that matches its revenue figures.

Keen to find out how analysts think OXE Marine's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The Low P/S Ratio?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as low as OXE Marine's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 31%. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 161% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 9.0% as estimated by the only analyst watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 3.3%, which is noticeably less attractive.

With this in consideration, we find it intriguing that OXE Marine's P/S sits behind most of its industry peers. It looks like most investors are not convinced at all that the company can achieve future growth expectations.

The Final Word

The latest share price surge wasn't enough to lift OXE Marine's P/S close to the industry median. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

OXE Marine's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook isn't contributing to its P/S anywhere near as much as we would have predicted. When we see strong growth forecasts like this, we can only assume potential risks are what might be placing significant pressure on the P/S ratio. At least price risks look to be very low, but investors seem to think future revenues could see a lot of volatility.
