It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Ferronordic (STO:FNM). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is Ferronordic Growing?

The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Impressively, Ferronordic has grown EPS by 29% per year, compound, in the last three years. If the company can sustain that sort of growth, we'd expect shareholders to come away winners.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Ferronordic maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 29% to kr5.7b. That's a real positive.

Are Ferronordic Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Like the kids in the streets standing up for their beliefs, insider share purchases give me reason to believe in a brighter future. That's because insider buying often indicates that those closest to the company have confidence that the share price will perform well. However, small purchases are not always indicative of conviction, and insiders don't always get it right.

Insiders both bought and sold Ferronordic shares in the last year, but the good news is they spent kr240k more buying than they netted selling. So, on balance, the insider transactions are mildly encouraging.

The good news, alongside the insider buying, for Ferronordic bulls is that insiders (collectively) have a meaningful investment in the stock. Indeed, they hold kr403m worth of its stock. That shows significant buy-in, and may indicate conviction in the business strategy. Those holdings account for over 10% of the company; visible skin in the game.

Does Ferronordic Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

You can't deny that Ferronordic has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. On top of that, insiders own a significant stake in the company and have been buying more shares. So it's fair to say I think this stock may well deserve a spot on your watchlist.
