Gentrack Group Insiders Sell NZ$9.6m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution

Over the past year, many Gentrack Group Limited (NZSE:GTK) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Gentrack Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The MD, CEO & Executive Director, Gary Miles, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for NZ$6.9m worth of shares at a price of NZ$13.00 each. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (NZ$9.45). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Insiders own 2.0% of Gentrack Group shares, worth about NZ$20m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Gentrack Group Tell Us?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Gentrack Group shares in the last quarter. Still, the insider transactions at Gentrack Group in the last 12 months are not very heartening.
