Need To Know: Flow Traders N.V. (AMS:FLOW) Insiders Have Been Buying Shares
We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So before you buy or sell Flow Traders N.V. (AMS:FLOW), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.
What Is Insider Buying?
Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.
We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

Flow Traders Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Chief Trading Officer & Member of the Management Board Folkert Joling bought €284k worth of shares at a price of €28.40 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is €34.60. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for Flow Traders share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. Folkert Joling was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
Folkert Joling bought 20.00k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of €27.22. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Does Flow Traders Boast High Insider Ownership?
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Flow Traders insiders own about €52m worth of shares. That equates to 3.4% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Flow Traders Insiders?
The fact that there have been no Flow Traders insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year.
