Risks Still Elevated At These Prices As GOODPEOPLE Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:033340) Shares Dive 33%
GOODPEOPLE Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:033340) shares have had a horrible month, losing 33% after a relatively good period beforehand. Longer-term shareholders will rue the drop in the share price, since it's now virtually flat for the year after a promising few quarters.
Even after such a large drop in price, you could still be forgiven for thinking GOODPEOPLE is a stock not worth researching with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 1x, considering almost half the companies in Korea's Luxury industry have P/S ratios below 0.4x. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's as high as it is.

How Has GOODPEOPLE Performed Recently?
Revenue has risen at a steady rate over the last year for GOODPEOPLE, which is generally not a bad outcome. It might be that many expect the reasonable revenue performance to beat most other companies over the coming period, which has increased investors’ willingness to pay up for the stock. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.
We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on GOODPEOPLE's earnings, revenue and cash flow. What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The High P/S?
In order to justify its P/S ratio, GOODPEOPLE would need to produce impressive growth in excess of the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 4.1% last year. However, this wasn't enough as the latest three year period has seen an unpleasant 12% overall drop in revenue. So unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that the company has not done a great job of growing revenue over that time.
Weighing that medium-term revenue trajectory against the broader industry's one-year forecast for expansion of 6.3% shows it's an unpleasant look.
With this in mind, we find it worrying that GOODPEOPLE's P/S exceeds that of its industry peers. Apparently many investors in the company are way more bullish than recent times would indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock at any price. There's a very good chance existing shareholders are setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with the recent negative growth rates.
The Bottom Line On GOODPEOPLE's P/S
Despite the recent share price weakness, GOODPEOPLE's P/S remains higher than most other companies in the industry. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.
We've established that GOODPEOPLE currently trades on a much higher than expected P/S since its recent revenues have been in decline over the medium-term. With a revenue decline on investors' minds, the likelihood of a souring sentiment is quite high which could send the P/S back in line with what we'd expect. Unless the the circumstances surrounding the recent medium-term improve, it wouldn't be wrong to expect a a difficult period ahead for the company's shareholders.
It is also worth noting that we have found 4 warning signs for GOODPEOPLE (1 shouldn't be ignored!) that you need to take into consideration.
