Looking at Iveco Group N.V.'s (BIT:IVG ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Iveco Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the insider, Gerrit Marx, for €6.8m worth of shares, at about €11.56 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (€9.72). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Gerrit Marx.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid €795k for 98.15k shares. On the other hand they divested 924.46k shares, for €11m. Gerrit Marx sold a total of 924.46k shares over the year at an average price of €12.10. I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 0.3% of Iveco Group shares, worth about €8.3m, according to our data. We do note, however, it is possible insiders have an indirect interest through a private company or other corporate structure. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Iveco Group Tell Us?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchases. However, the longer term transactions are not so encouraging. Neither the level of insider ownership, nor the transactions over the last twelve months inspire us, but we think the recent buying is positive. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
