Here's Why We Think Can Fin Homes (NSE:CANFINHOME) Is Well Worth Watching
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Can Fin Homes (NSE:CANFINHOME). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Quickly Is Can Fin Homes Increasing Earnings Per Share?
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. Can Fin Homes managed to grow EPS by 17% per year, over three years. That's a pretty good rate, if the company can sustain it.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. I note that Can Fin Homes's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. Can Fin Homes maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 18% to ₹7.4b. That's progress.

While it's always good to see growing profits, you should always remember that a weak balance sheet could come back to bite. So check Can Fin Homes's balance sheet strength, before getting too excited.
Are Can Fin Homes Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own Can Fin Homes shares worth a considerable sum. To be specific, they have ₹1.8b worth of shares. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Even though that's only about 2.5% of the company, it's enough money to indicate alignment between the leaders of the business and ordinary shareholders.
It means a lot to see insiders invested in the business, but I find myself wondering if remuneration policies are shareholder friendly. Well, based on the CEO pay, I'd say they are indeed. I discovered that the median total compensation for the CEOs of companies like Can Fin Homes with market caps between ₹29b and ₹117b is about ₹28m.
The Can Fin Homes CEO received total compensation of just ₹10m in the year to . That looks like modest pay to me, and may hint at a certain respect for the interests of shareholders. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when its reasonable that does give me a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. I'd also argue reasonable pay levels attest to good decision making more generally.
Is Can Fin Homes Worth Keeping An Eye On?
One positive for Can Fin Homes is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. The fact that EPS is growing is a genuine positive for Can Fin Homes, but the pretty picture gets better than that. With a meaningful level of insider ownership, and reasonable CEO pay, a reasonable mind might conclude that this is one stock worth watching. Of course, just because Can Fin Homes is growing does not mean it is undervalued.
