Here's Why I Think Can Fin Homes (NSE:CANFINHOME) Might Deserve Your Attention Today
Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.
In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Can Fin Homes (NSE:CANFINHOME). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Quickly Is Can Fin Homes Increasing Earnings Per Share?
The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. We can see that in the last three years Can Fin Homes grew its EPS by 15% per year. That's a pretty good rate, if the company can sustain it.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. I note that Can Fin Homes's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. While it's always good to see growing profits, you should always remember that a weak balance sheet could come back to bite. So check Can Fin Homes's balance sheet strength, before getting too excited.
Are Can Fin Homes Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own Can Fin Homes shares worth a considerable sum. To be specific, they have ₹2.0b worth of shares. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. Even though that's only about 2.5% of the company, it's enough money to indicate alignment between the leaders of the business and ordinary shareholders.
It means a lot to see insiders invested in the business, but I find myself wondering if remuneration policies are shareholder friendly. Well, based on the CEO pay, I'd say they are indeed. For companies with market capitalizations between ₹29b and ₹118b, like Can Fin Homes, the median CEO pay is around ₹28m.
The CEO of Can Fin Homes only received ₹13m in total compensation for the year ending . That's clearly well below average, so at a glance, that arrangement seems generous to shareholders, and points to a modest remuneration culture. CEO remuneration levels are not the most important metric for investors, but when the pay is modest, that does support enhanced alignment between the CEO and the ordinary shareholders. It can also be a sign of a culture of integrity, in a broader sense.
Should You Add Can Fin Homes To Your Watchlist?
As I already mentioned, Can Fin Homes is a growing business, which is what I like to see. The fact that EPS is growing is a genuine positive for Can Fin Homes, but the pretty picture gets better than that. Boasting both modest CEO pay and considerable insider ownership, I'd argue this one is worthy of the watchlist, at least. Now, you could try to make up your mind on Can Fin Homes by focusing on just these factors, or you could also consider how its price-to-earnings ratio compares to other companies in its industry.
