Examining Cashflow Against Orad's Earnings
Many investors haven't heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company's profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. This ratio tells us how much of a company's profit is not backed by free cashflow.
That means a negative accrual ratio is a good thing, because it shows that the company is bringing in more free cash flow than its profit would suggest. That is not intended to imply we should worry about a positive accrual ratio, but it's worth noting where the accrual ratio is rather high. That's because some academic studies have suggested that high accruals ratios tend to lead to lower profit or less profit growth.
Orad has an accrual ratio of -0.30 for the year to September 2024. That indicates that its free cash flow quite significantly exceeded its statutory profit. In fact, it had free cash flow of ₪27m in the last year, which was a lot more than its statutory profit of ₪6.80m. Orad shareholders are no doubt pleased that free cash flow improved over the last twelve months.

Our Take On Orad's Profit Performance
Happily for shareholders, Orad produced plenty of free cash flow to back up its statutory profit numbers. And on top of that, its earnings per share increased by 5.1% in the last year. The goal of this article has been to assess how well we can rely on the statutory earnings to reflect the company's potential, but there is plenty more to consider.
