IMCO Industries (TLV:IMCO) shareholder returns have been fantastic, earning 548% in 3 years
It hasn't been the best quarter for IMCO Industries Ltd. (TLV:IMCO) shareholders, since the share price has fallen 18% in that time. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last three years have been spectacular. The longer term view reveals that the share price is up 507% in that period. So the recent fall doesn't do much to dampen our respect for the business. The share price action could signify that the business itself is dramatically improved, in that time. It really delights us to see such great share price performance for investors.
The past week has proven to be lucrative for IMCO Industries investors, so let's see if fundamentals drove the company's three-year performance.
There is no denying that markets are sometimes efficient, but prices do not always reflect underlying business performance. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.
IMCO Industries became profitable within the last three years. That kind of transition can be an inflection point that justifies a strong share price gain, just as we have seen here.

What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. It's fair to say that the TSR gives a more complete picture for stocks that pay a dividend. We note that for IMCO Industries the TSR over the last 3 years was 548%, which is better than the share price return mentioned above. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
It's good to see that IMCO Industries has rewarded shareholders with a total shareholder return of 123% in the last twelve months. Of course, that includes the dividend. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 35% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. Someone with an optimistic perspective could view the recent improvement in TSR as indicating that the business itself is getting better with time. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand IMCO Industries better, we need to consider many other factors. Even so, be aware that IMCO Industries is showing 4 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 2 of those are significant...
