Kerry Group's (ISE:KRZ) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year

Kerry Group's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage
If it is predictable over a long period, even low dividend yields can be attractive. However, Kerry Group's earnings easily cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 50.1% over the next year. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 23% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.
Kerry Group Has A Solid Track Record
The company has an extended history of paying stable dividends. The dividend has gone from an annual total of €0.40 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of €1.27. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 12% per annum over that time. It is good to see that there has been strong dividend growth, and that there haven't been any cuts for a long time.
Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Achieve
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. Earnings have grown at around 4.8% a year for the past five years, which isn't massive but still better than seeing them shrink. Earnings growth is slow, but on the plus side, the dividend payout ratio is low and dividends could grow faster than earnings, if the company decides to increase its payout ratio.
We Really Like Kerry Group's Dividend
Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that Kerry Group is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. The company is easily earning enough to cover its dividend payments and it is great to see that these earnings are being translated into cash flow. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.
Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock. Earnings growth generally bodes well for the future value of company dividend payments.
