The recent 13% drop in UMP Healthcare Holdings Limited's (HKG:722) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased HK$2.63m worth of stock at an average buy price of HK$0.54 over the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only HK$2.23m.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

UMP Healthcare Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Executive Chairman Yiu Kwong Sun made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$450k worth of shares at a price of HK$0.45 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of HK$0.46. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. The good news for UMP Healthcare Holdings share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price.

While UMP Healthcare Holdings insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. Their average price was about HK$0.54.
