The recent 10% drop in New Amante Group Limited's (HKG:8412) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased HK$9.37m worth of stock at an average buy price of HK$0.46 over the past 12 months. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth HK$6.21m, which is not great.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At New Amante Group

The insider Liangping Ma made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for HK$9.4m worth of shares at a price of HK$0.46 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of HK$0.30. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Liangping Ma was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. New Amante Group insiders own 52% of the company, currently worth about HK$19m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
