Some Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the CFO & Executive Director, Helen Miles, recently sold a substantial UK£501k worth of stock at a price of UK£27.14 per share. That sale reduced their total holding by 24% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Severn Trent

In fact, the recent sale by Helen Miles was the biggest sale of Severn Trent shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even slightly below the current price of UK£27.14. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 24% of Helen Miles's holding.

Does Severn Trent Boast High Insider Ownership?

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Severn Trent insiders own about UK£16m worth of shares. That equates to 0.2% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
