For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Warren Buffett has mused, 'If you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.' When they buy such story stocks, investors are all too often the patsy.
In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like TBC Bank Group (LON:TBCG), which has not only revenues, but also profits. Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is TBC Bank Group Growing?
The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. TBC Bank Group managed to grow EPS by 13% per year, over three years. That growth rate is fairly good, assuming the company can keep it up.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Not all of TBC Bank Group's revenue this year is revenue from operations, so keep in mind the revenue and margin numbers I've used might not be the best representation of the underlying business. TBC Bank Group maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 24% to GEL1.0b. That's progress.

Are TBC Bank Group Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. So it is good to see that TBC Bank Group insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. Given insiders own a small fortune of shares, currently valued at GEL72m, they have plenty of motivation to push the business to succeed. That holding amounts to 9.4% of the stock on issue, thus making insiders influential, and aligned, owners of the business.
Does TBC Bank Group Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
One important encouraging feature of TBC Bank Group is that it is growing profits. If that's not enough on its own, there is also the rather notable levels of insider ownership. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on. It is worth noting though that we have found 2 warning signs for TBC Bank Group (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) that you need to take into consideration.
Although TBC Bank Group certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
