The most you can lose on any stock (assuming you don't use leverage) is 100% of your money. But on a lighter note, a good company can see its share price rise well over 100%. Long term ID Logistics Group SA (EPA:IDL) shareholders would be well aware of this, since the stock is up 128% in five years. Also pleasing for shareholders was the 20% gain in the last three months. But this could be related to the strong market, which is up 18% in the last three months.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS).

ID Logistics Group's earnings per share are down 6.4% per year, despite strong share price performance over five years.

Essentially, it doesn't seem likely that investors are focused on EPS. Since the change in EPS doesn't seem to correlate with the change in share price, it's worth taking a look at other metrics.

In contrast revenue growth of 12% per year is probably viewed as evidence that ID Logistics Group is growing, a real positive. In that case, the company may be sacrificing current earnings per share to drive growth.
