I Ran A Stock Scan For Earnings Growth And eQ Oyj (HEL:EQV1V) Passed With Ease
It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. But as Warren Buffett has mused, 'If you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.' When they buy such story stocks, investors are all too often the patsy.
If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in eQ Oyj (HEL:EQV1V). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

eQ Oyj's Earnings Per Share Are Growing.
As one of my mentors once told me, share price follows earnings per share (EPS). That means EPS growth is considered a real positive by most successful long-term investors. It certainly is nice to see that eQ Oyj has managed to grow EPS by 25% per year over three years. If the company can sustain that sort of growth, we'd expect shareholders to come away winners.
One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. I note that eQ Oyj's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. The good news is that eQ Oyj is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 6.9 percentage points to 59%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

While profitability drives the upside, prudent investors always check the balance sheet, too.
Are eQ Oyj Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It makes me feel more secure owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, thusly more closely aligning our interests. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own eQ Oyj shares worth a considerable sum. Indeed, they have a glittering mountain of wealth invested in it, currently valued at €213m. That equates to 22% of the company, making insiders powerful and aligned with other shareholders. Very encouraging.
Is eQ Oyj Worth Keeping An Eye On?
For growth investors like me, eQ Oyj's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. Further, the high level of insider ownership impresses me, and suggests that I'm not the only one who appreciates the EPS growth. Fast growth and confident insiders should be enough to warrant further research. So the answer is that I do think this is a good stock to follow along with. Even so, be aware that eQ Oyj is showing 1 warning sign in our investment analysis , you should know about...
Although eQ Oyj certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
