GFT Technologies (ETR:GFT) Shareholders Will Want The ROCE Trajectory To Continue

If we want to find a potential multi-bagger, often there are underlying trends that can provide clues. Firstly, we'd want to identify a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and then alongside that, an ever-increasing base of capital employed. Put simply, these types of businesses are compounding machines, meaning they are continually reinvesting their earnings at ever-higher rates of return. So when we looked at GFT Technologies (ETR:GFT) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.

What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?

If you haven't worked with ROCE before, it measures the 'return' (pre-tax profit) a company generates from capital employed in its business. The formula for this calculation on GFT Technologies is:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.19 = €72m ÷ (€629m - €258m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2024).

So, GFT Technologies has an ROCE of 19%. On its own, that's a standard return, however it's much better than the 8.3% generated by the IT industry.

How Are Returns Trending?

We like the trends that we're seeing from GFT Technologies. The data shows that returns on capital have increased substantially over the last five years to 19%. Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 25% more capital is being employed now too. The increasing returns on a growing amount of capital is common amongst multi-baggers and that's why we're impressed.

Another thing to note, GFT Technologies has a high ratio of current liabilities to total assets of 41%. This effectively means that suppliers (or short-term creditors) are funding a large portion of the business, so just be aware that this can introduce some elements of risk. While it's not necessarily a bad thing, it can be beneficial if this ratio is lower.

The Bottom Line On GFT Technologies' ROCE

All in all, it's terrific to see that GFT Technologies is reaping the rewards from prior investments and is growing its capital base. And a remarkable 121% total return over the last five years tells us that investors are expecting more good things to come in the future. With that being said, we still think the promising fundamentals mean the company deserves some further due diligence.

On a separate note, we've found 1 warning sign for GFT Technologies you'll probably want to know about.

What you have missed is that this event happened last year too. Last year the number was 21 seconds. This year it beat Bolt. That's 60% improvement in an year. Now extrapolate this in many axes of work that Robots can come and fill in. The physical productivity and AI boom is just starting.

I can't pick a company. But I can pick a person. With no doubt that's Musk. Optimus for blue collar productivity increase and xAI for white collar productivity increase. Did anyone dabble with GrokBot here?

At first glance, this was the strongest earnings season in years. But when you look at where the growth actually came from, the story splits into two very different pictures.
