INDUS Holding (ETR:INH) Has Announced A Dividend Of €1.20

INDUS Holding AG (ETR:INH) has announced that it will pay a dividend of €1.20 per share on the 30th of May. This makes the dividend yield 4.9%, which will augment investor returns quite nicely.

INDUS Holding's Future Dividend Projections Appear Well Covered By Earnings

While it is great to have a strong dividend yield, we should also consider whether the payment is sustainable. The last dividend was quite easily covered by INDUS Holding's earnings. This means that a large portion of its earnings are being retained to grow the business.

The next year is set to see EPS grow by 70.9%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 30% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

Dividend Volatility

While the company has been paying a dividend for a long time, it has cut the dividend at least once in the last 10 years. The dividend has gone from an annual total of €1.10 in 2015 to the most recent total annual payment of €1.20. Dividend payments have been growing, but very slowly over the period. We're glad to see the dividend has risen, but with a limited rate of growth and fluctuations in the payments the total shareholder return may be limited.

Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Achieve

Growing earnings per share could be a mitigating factor when considering the past fluctuations in the dividend. INDUS Holding hasn't seen much change in its earnings per share over the last five years.

Our Thoughts On INDUS Holding's Dividend

Overall, we don't think this company makes a great dividend stock, even though the dividend wasn't cut this year. In the past, the payments have been unstable, but over the short term the dividend could be reliable, with the company generating enough cash to cover it. We don't think INDUS Holding is a great stock to add to your portfolio if income is your focus.

Investors generally tend to favour companies with a consistent, stable dividend policy as opposed to those operating an irregular one. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock.
