Market Might Still Lack Some Conviction On Aoshikang Technology Co., Ltd. (SZSE:002913) Even After 30% Share Price Boost
Aoshikang Technology Co., Ltd. (SZSE:002913) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 30% after a shaky period beforehand. Looking further back, the 24% rise over the last twelve months isn't too bad notwithstanding the strength over the last 30 days.
Although its price has surged higher, Aoshikang Technology's price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 25.5x might still make it look like a buy right now compared to the market in China, where around half of the companies have P/E ratios above 36x and even P/E's above 70x are quite common. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.
With its earnings growth in positive territory compared to the declining earnings of most other companies, Aoshikang Technology has been doing quite well of late. One possibility is that the P/E is low because investors think the company's earnings are going to fall away like everyone else's soon. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Does Growth Match The Low P/E?
In order to justify its P/E ratio, Aoshikang Technology would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the market.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow earnings per share by a handy 6.8% last year. Still, lamentably EPS has fallen 31% in aggregate from three years ago, which is disappointing. Therefore, it's fair to say the earnings growth recently has been undesirable for the company.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 85% as estimated by the lone analyst watching the company. With the market only predicted to deliver 38%, the company is positioned for a stronger earnings result.
In light of this, it's peculiar that Aoshikang Technology's P/E sits below the majority of other companies. Apparently some shareholders are doubtful of the forecasts and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
What We Can Learn From Aoshikang Technology's P/E?
Aoshikang Technology's stock might have been given a solid boost, but its P/E certainly hasn't reached any great heights. While the price-to-earnings ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of earnings expectations.
We've established that Aoshikang Technology currently trades on a much lower than expected P/E since its forecast growth is higher than the wider market. There could be some major unobserved threats to earnings preventing the P/E ratio from matching the positive outlook. At least price risks look to be very low, but investors seem to think future earnings could see a lot of volatility.
