Returns On Capital Are Showing Encouraging Signs At China Security (SHSE:600654)
If you're looking for a multi-bagger, there's a few things to keep an eye out for. Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. If you see this, it typically means it's a company with a great business model and plenty of profitable reinvestment opportunities. With that in mind, we've noticed some promising trends at China Security (SHSE:600654) so let's look a bit deeper.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for China Security, this is the formula:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.032 = CN¥61m ÷ (CN¥3.6b - CN¥1.7b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2024).
So, China Security has an ROCE of 3.2%. In absolute terms, that's a low return and it also under-performs the Electronic industry average of 5.5%.

Not only that, but the company is utilizing 222% more capital than before, but that's to be expected from a company trying to break into profitability. This can tell us that the company has plenty of reinvestment opportunities that are able to generate higher returns.
