Returns At Innuovo Technology (SZSE:000795) Appear To Be Weighed Down
If you're not sure where to start when looking for the next multi-bagger, there are a few key trends you should keep an eye out for. Firstly, we'll want to see a proven return on capital employed (ROCE) that is increasing, and secondly, an expanding base of capital employed. Put simply, these types of businesses are compounding machines, meaning they are continually reinvesting their earnings at ever-higher rates of return. In light of that, when we looked at Innuovo Technology (SZSE:000795) and its ROCE trend, we weren't exactly thrilled.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
If you haven't worked with ROCE before, it measures the 'return' (pre-tax profit) a company generates from capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for Innuovo Technology:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.046 = CN¥123m ÷ (CN¥4.2b - CN¥1.5b) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2023).
Thus, Innuovo Technology has an ROCE of 4.6%. Ultimately, that's a low return and it under-performs the Metals and Mining industry average of 6.6%.

How Are Returns Trending?
Things have been pretty stable at Innuovo Technology, with its capital employed and returns on that capital staying somewhat the same for the last five years. This tells us the company isn't reinvesting in itself, so it's plausible that it's past the growth phase. With that in mind, unless investment picks up again in the future, we wouldn't expect Innuovo Technology to be a multi-bagger going forward.
Another point to note, we noticed the company has increased current liabilities over the last five years. This is intriguing because if current liabilities hadn't increased to 36% of total assets, this reported ROCE would probably be less than4.6% because total capital employed would be higher.The 4.6% ROCE could be even lower if current liabilities weren't 36% of total assets, because the the formula would show a larger base of total capital employed. So while current liabilities isn't high right now, keep an eye out in case it increases further, because this can introduce some elements of risk.
In Conclusion...
In a nutshell, Innuovo Technology has been trudging along with the same returns from the same amount of capital over the last five years. And investors may be recognizing these trends since the stock has only returned a total of 5.5% to shareholders over the last five years. As a result, if you're hunting for a multi-bagger, we think you'd have more luck elsewhere.
On a final note, we've found 2 warning signs for Innuovo Technology that we think you should be aware of.
