Aurania Resources Insider Buyers Pleased With CA$239k Return On Investment
Aurania Resources Ltd. (CVE:ARU) insiders who acquired shares over the previous 12 months, can probably afford to ignore the recent 11% decline in the stock price. After taking the recent loss into consideration, the CA$880.7k worth of stock they bought is now worth CA$1.12m, indicating that their investment yielded a positive return.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
Aurania Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Executive Chairman Keith Barron bought CA$461k worth of shares at a price of CA$0.20 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (CA$0.34), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.
In the last twelve months Aurania Resources insiders were buying shares, but not selling. They paid about CA$0.27 on average. To my mind it is good that insiders have invested their own money in the company. However, we do note that they were buying at significantly lower prices than today's share price. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership Of Aurania Resources
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Aurania Resources insiders own 44% of the company, currently worth about CA$16m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Do The Aurania Resources Insider Transactions Indicate?
There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. But insiders have shown more of an appetite for the stock, over the last year. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like Aurania Resources insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
