Insiders Re-Evaluate Their CA$4.46m Stock Purchase As Abasca Resources Falls To CA$10m
The recent price decline of 19% in Abasca Resources Inc.'s (CVE:ABA) stock may have disappointed insiders who bought CA$4.46m worth of shares at an average price of CA$0.16 in the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only CA$2.94m.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
Abasca Resources Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when CEO, President & Director Dawn Zhou bought CA$2.4m worth of shares at a price of CA$0.16 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being CA$0.10). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
While Abasca Resources insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insider Ownership Of Abasca Resources
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Abasca Resources insiders own 70% of the company, worth about CA$7.1m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
