Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that David Kelly, the President of RF Capital Group Inc. (TSE:RCG) recently shelled out CA$72k to buy stock, at CA$7.30 per share. Nevertheless, it only increased their shareholding by a minuscule percentage, and it wasn't a massive purchase by absolute value, either.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At RF Capital Group
Notably, that recent purchase by David Kelly is the biggest insider purchase of RF Capital Group shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of CA$7.18. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was David Kelly.
David Kelly bought a total of 10.00k shares over the year at an average price of CA$7.30. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. Does RF Capital Group Boast High Insider Ownership?
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. From what we can see in our data, insiders own only about CA$977k worth of RF Capital Group shares. But they may have an indirect interest through a corporate structure that we haven't picked up on. This level of insider ownership is notably low, and not very encouraging.
So What Does This Data Suggest About RF Capital Group Insiders?
It is good to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. However, we note that the company didn't make a profit over the last twelve months, which makes us cautious. On this analysis the only slight negative we see is the fairly low (overall) insider ownership; their transactions suggest that they are quite positive on RF Capital Group stock. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Case in point: We've spotted 2 warning signs for RF Capital Group you should be aware of, and 1 of these is potentially serious.
