The recent price decline of 16% in Optima Technology Group Limited's (ASX:OPA) stock may have disappointed insiders who bought AU$641k worth of shares at an average price of AU$0.10 in the past 12 months. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only AU$385k.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Optima Technology Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Non-Executive Director David Hancock bought AU$450k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.10 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of AU$0.063. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.
