Subdued Growth No Barrier To Life360, Inc. (ASX:360) With Shares Advancing 25%
The Life360, Inc. (ASX:360) share price has done very well over the last month, posting an excellent gain of 25%. The annual gain comes to 145% following the latest surge, making investors sit up and take notice.
Following the firm bounce in price, given around half the companies in Australia's Software industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 2.8x, you may consider Life360 as a stock to avoid entirely with its 9.6x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's so lofty.

How Life360 Has Been Performing
Recent revenue growth for Life360 has been in line with the industry. It might be that many expect the mediocre revenue performance to strengthen positively, which has kept the P/S ratio from falling. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as steep as Life360's is when the company's growth is on track to outshine the industry decidedly.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 23%. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 262% in total over the last three years. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing revenue over that time.
Shifting to the future, estimates from the analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 19% each year over the next three years. That's shaping up to be similar to the 21% per year growth forecast for the broader industry.
In light of this, it's curious that Life360's P/S sits above the majority of other companies. It seems most investors are ignoring the fairly average growth expectations and are willing to pay up for exposure to the stock. Although, additional gains will be difficult to achieve as this level of revenue growth is likely to weigh down the share price eventually.
The Key Takeaway
The strong share price surge has lead to Life360's P/S soaring as well. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.
Analysts are forecasting Life360's revenues to only grow on par with the rest of the industry, which has lead to the high P/S ratio being unexpected. The fact that the revenue figures aren't setting the world alight has us doubtful that the company's elevated P/S can be sustainable for the long term. A positive change is needed in order to justify the current price-to-sales ratio.
