Insider Buyers Lose Additional AU$73k As AdAlta Dips To AU$4.5m

The recent 18% drop in AdAlta Limited's (ASX:1AD) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased AU$99.5k worth of stock at an average buy price of AU$0.026 over the past 12 months. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth AU$26.4k, which is not great.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At AdAlta

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Stuart Morris bought AU$97k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.027 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being AU$0.007). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.

While AdAlta insiders bought shares during the last year, they didn't sell. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Does AdAlta Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 30% of AdAlta shares, worth about AU$1.4m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
