Advance Metals Limited (ASX:AVM) insiders who purchased shares in the last 12 months were richly rewarded last week. The stock climbed by 12% resulting in a AU$674k addition to the company’s market value. Put another way, the original AU$254.0k acquisition is now worth AU$371.3k.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when insider Patrick Volpe bought AU$200k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.026 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of AU$0.038. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Does Advance Metals Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. It appears that Advance Metals insiders own 33% of the company, worth about AU$2.1m.
