Have Insiders Been Buying Estia Health Limited (ASX:EHE) Shares?
We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Estia Health Limited (ASX:EHE).
What Is Insider Selling?
Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Estia Health
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Independent Non-Executive Director Warwick Smith bought AU$101k worth of shares at a price of AU$1.56 per share. That implies that an insider found the current price of AU$1.70 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. The good news for Estia Health share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price.

Does Estia Health Boast High Insider Ownership?
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. From our data, it seems that Estia Health insiders own 1.5% of the company, worth about AU$6.7m. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!
