Insiders who bought AU$450.8k worth of Alma Metals Limited (ASX:ALM) stock in the last year recovered part of their losses as the stock rose by 20% last week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at AU$119k since the time of purchase.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Alma Metals

The Executive Chairman Alasdair Cooke made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for AU$200k worth of shares at a price of AU$0.008 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being AU$0.006). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when insiders have purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price.
