Analysts' Revenue Estimates For VERBUND AG (VIE:VER) Are Surging Higher
VERBUND AG (VIE:VER) shareholders will have a reason to smile today, with the analysts making substantial upgrades to this year's forecasts. The revenue forecast for this year has experienced a facelift, with the analysts now much more optimistic on its sales pipeline.
Following the latest upgrade, VERBUND's nine analysts currently expect revenues in 2022 to be €7.7b, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are presumed to jump 30% to €5.11. Prior to this update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of €6.2b and earnings per share (EPS) of €5.10 in 2022. It seems analyst sentiment has certainly become more bullish on revenues, even though they haven't changed their view on earnings per share.

It may not be a surprise to see that the analysts have reconfirmed their price target of €92.95, implying that the uplift in sales is not expected to greatly contribute to VERBUND's valuation in the near term. That's not the only conclusion we can draw from this data however, as some investors also like to consider the spread in estimates when evaluating analyst price targets. Currently, the most bullish analyst values VERBUND at €125 per share, while the most bearish prices it at €67.00. This is a fairly broad spread of estimates, suggesting that the analysts are forecasting a wide range of possible outcomes for the business.
These estimates are interesting, but it can be useful to paint some more broad strokes when seeing how forecasts compare, both to the VERBUND's past performance and to peers in the same industry. These estimates imply that sales are expected to slow, with a forecast annualised revenue decline of 3.0% by the end of 2022. This indicates a significant reduction from annual growth of 16% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 0.3% per year. It's pretty clear that VERBUND's revenues are expected to perform substantially worse than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most obvious conclusion from this consensus update is that there's been no major change in the business' prospects in recent times, with analysts holding earnings per share steady, in line with previous estimates. Fortunately, they also upgraded their revenue estimates, and are forecasting revenues to grow slower than the wider market. Seeing the dramatic upgrade to this year's forecasts, it might be time to take another look at VERBUND.
