Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Instituto Hermes Pardini (BVMF:PARD3). While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Instituto Hermes Pardini Growing?

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Over the last three years, Instituto Hermes Pardini has grown EPS by 6.4% per year. While that sort of growth rate isn't amazing, it does show the business is growing.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. The good news is that Instituto Hermes Pardini is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 2.6 percentage points to 16%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

Are Instituto Hermes Pardini Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that Instituto Hermes Pardini insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 65% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. To me this is a good sign because it suggests they will be incentivised to build value for shareholders over the long term. And their holding is extremely valuable at the current share price, totalling R$1.9b. That means they have plenty of their own capital riding on the performance of the business!

Should You Add Instituto Hermes Pardini To Your Watchlist?

One important encouraging feature of Instituto Hermes Pardini is that it is growing profits. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on. Even so, be aware that Instituto Hermes Pardini is showing 1 warning sign in our investment analysis , you should know about...
