To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS).

RCL Foods became profitable within the last three years. So we would expect a higher share price over the period.

What About The Total Shareholder Return (TSR)?

We've already covered RCL Foods' share price action, but we should also mention its total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR attempts to capture the value of dividends (as if they were reinvested) as well as any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings offered to shareholders. Dividends have been really beneficial for RCL Foods shareholders, and that cash payout contributed to why its TSR of 49%, over the last 3 years, is better than the share price return.

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that RCL Foods shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 37% over one year. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 4% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. Someone with an optimistic perspective could view the recent improvement in TSR as indicating that the business itself is getting better with time. Is RCL Foods cheap compared to other companies? These 3 valuation measures might help you decide.
