Here's Why We Think Daseke (NASDAQ:DSKE) Is Well Worth Watching

The excitement of investing in a company that can reverse its fortunes is a big draw for some speculators, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can manage to find investors. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, so investors in these companies may be taking on more risk than they should.

In contrast to all that, many investors prefer to focus on companies like Daseke (NASDAQ:DSKE), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

How Fast Is Daseke Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In the last three years Daseke's earnings per share took off; so much so that it's a bit disingenuous to use these figures to try and deduce long term estimates. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. Daseke's EPS skyrocketed from US$0.64 to US$0.84, in just one year; a result that's bound to bring a smile to shareholders. That's a fantastic gain of 30%.

It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Our analysis has highlighted that Daseke's revenue from operations did not account for all of their revenue in the previous 12 months, so our analysis of its margins might not accurately reflect the underlying business. EBIT margins for Daseke remained fairly unchanged over the last year, however the company should be pleased to report its revenue growth for the period of 19% to US$1.7b. That's a real positive.

Are Daseke Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It should give investors a sense of security owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, creating a close alignment their interests. Shareholders will be pleased by the fact that insiders own Daseke shares worth a considerable sum. As a matter of fact, their holding is valued at US$18m. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. As a percentage, this totals to 5.2% of the shares on issue for the business, an appreciable amount considering the market cap.
