The Market Doesn't Like What It Sees From Vislink Technologies, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:VISL) Revenues Yet As Shares Tumble 28%

To the annoyance of some shareholders, Vislink Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:VISL) shares are down a considerable 28% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. The recent drop completes a disastrous twelve months for shareholders, who are sitting on a 69% loss during that time.

Following the heavy fall in price, given about half the companies operating in the United States' Communications industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") above 0.9x, you may consider Vislink Technologies as an attractive investment with its 0.2x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Vislink Technologies' Recent Performance Look Like?

Vislink Technologies hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining revenue compares poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth in their revenues on average. It seems that many are expecting the poor revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the P/S ratio. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should underperform the industry for P/S ratios like Vislink Technologies' to be considered reasonable.

Taking a look back first, the company's revenue growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 15%. Regardless, revenue has managed to lift by a handy 10% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the earlier period of growth. Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would be roughly satisfied with the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Looking ahead now, revenue is anticipated to slump, contracting by 1.9% during the coming year according to the sole analyst following the company. That's not great when the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 4.3%.

In light of this, it's understandable that Vislink Technologies' P/S would sit below the majority of other companies. However, shrinking revenues are unlikely to lead to a stable P/S over the longer term. Even just maintaining these prices could be difficult to achieve as the weak outlook is weighing down the shares.

The Bottom Line On Vislink Technologies' P/S

The southerly movements of Vislink Technologies' shares means its P/S is now sitting at a pretty low level. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.

With revenue forecasts that are inferior to the rest of the industry, it's no surprise that Vislink Technologies' P/S is on the lower end of the spectrum. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in revenue isn't great enough to justify a higher P/S ratio. Unless there's material change, it's hard to envision a situation where the stock price will rise drastically.

We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 2 warning signs for Vislink Technologies (1 is concerning!) that you need to be mindful of.
