Quantum Computing (QUBT) Looks Undervalued On Paper, Is The Pullback A Buying Opportunity?

Quantum Computing (QUBT) has drawn fresh attention after recent share price moves, prompting investors to reassess how its photonics based quantum hardware, software and sensing portfolio aligns with current expectations for this US$1.84b company.

At the current share price of US$8.15, Quantum Computing has seen the 1 day share price return fall 5.78% and the 7 day share price return fall 8.63%, while the 90 day share price return is down 34.22% and the 1 year total shareholder return is down 48.35%, despite a very large 3 year total shareholder return that points to earlier momentum now fading.

Compare Quantum Computing's recent pullback with other early stage quantum and photonics plays by scanning the hand picked 25 quantum computing stocks shaping this corner of the market.

After such sharp swings in Quantum Computing, some investors may be tempted to rush in while others prefer to wait for a clearer reset. The next step is to see what the current valuation actually reflects.

Most Popular Narrative: 55.5% Undervalued

Analysts following Quantum Computing compare a narrative fair value of $18.33 to the recent $8.15 share price. This frames the current pullback as a large discount before digging into their reasoning.

The move from prototype systems to planned volume manufacturing by the end of the decade, supported by over $1.5 billion of newly raised capital and a low liability balance, allows QCi to invest aggressively in automation, yield improvement and design reuse. These efforts should help reduce unit costs and support sustained improvement in gross margin and earnings power.

Want to see what sits behind that confidence in Quantum Computing? The narrative leans on steep revenue expansion, a sharp swing in margins and an eye-catching profit multiple. Curious how those ingredients combine to reach that fair value figure.

However, the Quantum Computing narrative also leans on very small current revenue and rising expenses, so any slowdown in contract wins or cost discipline could quickly challenge it.

Worth looking at what previous legal action actually did to Meta rather than reaching for tobacco. The FTC's record five billion dollar privacy fine in 2019 was met with the stock rising, because it came in below fears and removed an open question. GDPR was designed to constrain large platforms and increased their share of the European ad market, because compliance cost fell hardest on small intermediaries. The FTC's antitrust case, the one that could genuinely have broken the company up, was decided in Meta's favour last November. The only thing that ever meaningfully hurt the business was Apple changing a tracking default, and Meta out-spent that too, while the ad-tech firms that could not afford to rebuild disappeared. The pattern is not that Meta survives regulation. It is that regulation keeps costing its smaller competitors more.

At first glance, this was the strongest earnings season in years. But when you look at where the growth actually came from, the story splits into two very different pictures.
