It's Down 26% But PowerFleet, Inc. (NASDAQ:AIOT) Could Be Riskier Than It Looks

PowerFleet, Inc. (NASDAQ:AIOT) shareholders that were waiting for something to happen have been dealt a blow with a 26% share price drop in the last month. To make matters worse, the recent drop has wiped out a year's worth of gains with the share price now back where it started a year ago.

In spite of the heavy fall in price, there still wouldn't be many who think PowerFleet's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 2x is worth a mention when the median P/S in the United States' Electronic industry is similar at about 2.3x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

Recent times have been advantageous for PowerFleet as its revenues have been rising faster than most other companies. PowerFleet's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

With this information, we find it interesting that PowerFleet is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders are skeptical of the forecasts and have been accepting lower selling prices.
