Cortex AI Gateway’s Model Routing Push Could Be A Game Changer For Snowflake (SNOW)

  • Earlier this month, Snowflake introduced dynamic model routing within its Cortex AI Gateway and flagship AI tools, while broadening access to open models such as DeepSeek-V4-Flash 0731 and GLM-5.3 to help enterprises balance model quality, cost and governance on Snowflake’s platform.
  • This rollout positions Cortex AI Gateway as a centralized control layer for routing workloads across open and proprietary models, aiming to optimise token efficiency and keep sensitive, governed data within Snowflake as customers scale their AI usage.
  • Next, we’ll examine how Cortex AI Gateway’s automatic workload-to-model matching could influence Snowflake’s investment narrative around AI-driven platform adoption.

Snowflake Investment Narrative Recap

To own Snowflake, you need to believe its AI Data Cloud can stay central as enterprises ramp up AI and modernize away from legacy databases, despite intense hyperscaler and AI native competition and ongoing losses. The most important short term catalyst remains evidence that newer AI products can translate into broader, durable platform usage, while the biggest risk is that AI disrupts Snowflake’s own core data warehousing model rather than amplifying it. This latest Cortex AI Gateway update reinforces that narrative but does not fundamentally change it.

Among recent developments, the launch of Cortex AI Gateway earlier this month is most relevant here, since dynamic model routing is an extension of that foundation. Together, they frame Snowflake not just as a place to store and query data but as a governed control plane for AI workloads. If customers increasingly standardize AI governance, model choice, and cost controls on Snowflake, that could support the key catalyst of AI driven platform adoption.

Yet against this promise, investors should also be aware of how intensifying competition from hyperscalers and AI native platforms could eventually test Snowflake’s pricing power and growth expectations as...

Some of the lowest ranked analysts are much more cautious than the consensus, even before this news, assuming roughly 22.8% annual revenue growth and no profitability over the next three years, so if you are weighing Cortex AI Gateway’s potential you should recognize that these analysts see AI native rivals and bundled cloud offerings as a serious threat and that their more pessimistic view might either soften or harden once the impact of Snowflake’s new AI routing capabilities becomes clearer.

Worth looking at what previous legal action actually did to Meta rather than reaching for tobacco. The FTC's record five billion dollar privacy fine in 2019 was met with the stock rising, because it came in below fears and removed an open question. GDPR was designed to constrain large platforms and increased their share of the European ad market, because compliance cost fell hardest on small intermediaries. The FTC's antitrust case, the one that could genuinely have broken the company up, was decided in Meta's favour last November. The only thing that ever meaningfully hurt the business was Apple changing a tracking default, and Meta out-spent that too, while the ad-tech firms that could not afford to rebuild disappeared. The pattern is not that Meta survives regulation. It is that regulation keeps costing its smaller competitors more.

At first glance, this was the strongest earnings season in years. But when you look at where the growth actually came from, the story splits into two very different pictures.
