Some Samsara Inc. (NYSE:IOT) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Co-Founder, Sanjit Biswas, recently sold a substantial US$7.6m worth of stock at a price of US$45.66 per share. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 7.6%.

Samsara Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Notably, that recent sale by Sanjit Biswas is the biggest insider sale of Samsara shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at below the current price (US$46.87). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. We note that the biggest single sale was only 7.6% of Sanjit Biswas's holding.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Samsara insiders own 40% of the company, currently worth about US$11b based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
