Approach 1: Synopsys Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Analysis

A Discounted Cash Flow, or DCF, model takes estimates of the cash a company could generate in the future and discounts those amounts back into today’s dollars, aiming to arrive at an intrinsic value per share.

For Synopsys, the model uses its last twelve months Free Cash Flow of about $1.33b as a starting point and then builds out cash flow projections. Analyst inputs are available up to 2028, with Simply Wall St extrapolating further out to 2035 under its 2 Stage Free Cash Flow to Equity approach. In this framework, projected Free Cash Flow for 2035 is $5.88b, with intermediate years such as 2026, 2027 and 2028 sitting between $1.91b and $3.21b based on the data provided.

Bringing all of those future cash flows back to today, the model arrives at an estimated intrinsic value of about $375.15 per share, compared with a current share price around $510. That gap implies the stock is about 36.2% above the DCF estimate, which suggests a relatively full price for investors who rely primarily on cash flow based valuation.

Result: OVERVALUED

Our Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis suggests Synopsys may be overvalued by 36.2%. Discover 872 undervalued stocks or create your own screener to find better value opportunities.

Approach 2: Synopsys Price vs Earnings

For profitable companies, the P/E ratio is a useful way to think about how much you are paying for each dollar of earnings. This makes it a straightforward tool for comparing familiar names across the same sector.

What counts as a "normal" P/E depends a lot on how quickly earnings are expected to grow and how risky those earnings are. Higher expected growth and lower perceived risk usually justify a higher P/E, while slower growth or higher risk often points to a lower one.

Synopsys currently trades on a P/E of about 73.17x. That sits well above the Software industry average of 30.88x and also higher than the peer group average of 44.89x. Simply Wall St’s Fair Ratio for Synopsys is 41.83x. This Fair Ratio is a proprietary estimate of what the P/E could be based on factors such as earnings growth, industry, profit margins, market cap and risk profile.

Because the Fair Ratio pulls these company specific inputs together, it can be more tailored than a simple peer or industry comparison. Setting the current P/E of 73.17x against the Fair Ratio of 41.83x indicates that the shares are pricing in a richer multiple than that model implies.

Upgrade Your Decision Making: Choose your Synopsys Narrative

Earlier we mentioned that there is an even better way to understand valuation, so let us introduce you to Narratives. This is a simple way to connect your view of Synopsys to the numbers you see on screen.

A Narrative is your story about the company, where you set your own assumptions for fair value, future revenue, earnings and margins, instead of only relying on a single model output.

On Simply Wall St, Narratives sit inside the Community page. They link that story to a financial forecast and then to a fair value that you can compare directly with the current Synopsys share price to help you think about whether it looks attractive or stretched based on your own view.

Narratives on the platform update automatically when new information such as earnings releases or news arrives. For Synopsys you might see one investor using cautious revenue and margin assumptions to reach a fair value well below US$510, while another uses more optimistic estimates that place fair value comfortably above the current price.

Between 2003 and 2011, gold nearly went 5x. Dollar went weak too. The gold companies did bad. It is worth noting that between 2003 and 2011, there was 2008! I will leave it your inference and research.
